Autumn 2019 - Welcome to Class 4

Welcome back to the Autumn term for another fun packed year of learning.

Here is the start of year information - Curriculum Map and Parent Letter

A Victorian Christmas

Class 4, in full Victorian dress, visited Shirehall in Dorchester for a truly Victorian Christmas Crime experience.  The children became detectives and researched the crime of 7 year old boy from Wareham called Harry who was convicted of arson in the 1800’s.  Once they had found out if he was guilty or not, they got to walk in Harry’s shoes and followed his footsteps in the historic cells beneath the court house. They experienced the cells, the court appearance and sentencing.  A truly memorising experience for all.

They then made traditional Victorian Christmas cards using Victorian images and write in ink with a traditional Victorian pen.

As part of the children’s advent calendar of kindness, they performed two Christmas songs to the staff and customers at Shirehall.  The children were truly fantastic.

Roman Shields

WOW! The home learning project arrived in school today and they are amazing.  The project was to design and make a Roman Shield ready for our fabulous finish on 13th December.  The children couldn’t wait till then to show how the shields would be used in battle and made an attempt at a roman turtle formation in the classroom.  We need some work on our formation! Thanks to the parents and families in supporting the children with their projects.

Home Learning

Maths home learning is on ActiveLearn.  All the children have their usernames and passwords.

Class 4 Animation Workshop with Creature Comforts Creator

Today, thanks to funding from Symondsbury School Friends, had the pleasure of having model maker Chris Brock to hold a model making workshop.  Chris has worked on many model animation projects including Creature Comforts, Wallace and Gromit and the DFS advert.

The children have learnt about the model making process and how the films are put together and then had a chance to make their own model under Chris’s instruction.

Class 4 would like to thank Chris for coming in and spending the day and the Friends of Symondsbury for allowing us to have this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Hindu Workshop

Today, we have been learning about the arts and dance of India.  We decorated a traditional Hindu Diva Lamp and learnt a dance that we then performed to the school and parents.  It was a great day.
